Comrade Saheed Showemimo, the Chairman, Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), Ikorodu West LCDA Branch was born on 21st day of December, 1970 at Fadeyi area of Lagos State; though he hails from Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.
He had his primary school education at Saint Paul’s Anglican Primary School, Mushin, Lagos State between 1977 and 1982.
However, when he was in Primary 5, his parents decided to curb his teenage exuberance; which they considered as going out of hand by enrolling him at a Mechanics Workshop located on 12-14, Onike-Iwaya Road, Yaba, Lagos to start learning the rudiment of vehicle repairs after school hours.
Upon graduation, he gained admission to Eko Boys High School; which he discontinued after his Form 2 promotional examination due to the pressure of one of his 3 bosses; led by Mr. Moshood; an Otu, Oyo State born Honda repair expert; who noted his commitment, dexterity and passion for vehicle repairs.
He spent 6 years in the workshop popularly called Ogba Jakande to fully learn the rudiments of vehicle repairs/maintenance and was certified fit to undergo the trade on his own in 1984.
In 1985, his parents moved back home to Ikorodu and young Saheed Showemimo had no choice, but to follow them.
He got a job at Spintex Textile Company Limited located at Ikorodu as a Stand-by Driver and did this for two years (1985-1986).
There he met Comrade Ogidan (a Peugeot Specialist) who was the sole company’s vehicles’ repair/maintenance contract mechanic. He introduced himself to Ogidan as a Honda Specialist who could also handle Hyundai repairs; as Hyundai was just being introduced into the Nigerian Auto Market then. This endeared him to Comrade Ogidan who instantly gave him a joining man job at his workshop located around Sabo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Saheed Showemimo worked with Comrade Ogidan for about 3 years and left to establish his own workshop: Saheed Automobile Repairs Workshop (1992) at 224, Ikorodu-Lagos Road, Agric Bus-Stop, Ikorodu, Lagos State where he still practices till date.
He joined Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), Ikorodu Zone in 1994 and when his loyalty to the association was noted by the leadership of the association at the Zonal level, he was mandated to mid-wife and coordinate Lagos Road Scheme of the association in 1998. He was later elected as the Scheme’s Vice-Chairman (1998-2002).
However, conflicts set-into the association’s affairs at the scheme and the administration of the scheme collapsed; making the ‘sectoral’ professionals: Mechanics, Panel Beaters, Spray Painters, Auto Electricians, Auto A/C and others to move to form their parallel associations.
But not too long, common sense prevailed and all the splinter associations at the scheme came back together and were constituted into a Unit (Lagos Road Unit).
With joy in his heart, Comrade Saheed Showemimo backed Comrade Mutiu Olatubosun to chair the association at the Unit for 8 years; while he acted as its Patron.
About 4 years ago, Comrade Saheed Showemimo was elected NATA, Ikorodu West LCDA Branch Vice Chairman to Comrade Lawrence Daudu (Chairman) who left Ikorodu area for Badagry, Lagos State when he was just 2 years on the post. The lot then fell on Comrade Saheed Showemimo to complete their term.
Having performed well to the satisfaction of his members, his Unit (Lagos Road) members have just given him the nod to contest for the post of Branch Chairman and which none of the other two Units; Ajaguna and Owutu Mechanincs Village is offering any ‘challenger’.
Comrade Saheed Showemimo, a staunch Muslim who is one of the best Honda and Hyundai Vehicles Specialists in Nigeria is happily married to Mrs. Arinola Showemimo and the marriage is blessed with two beautiful children.
