On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu Olusegun, who is not able to be here today, I thank you for this Invitation to Chair the Events of the Day.
It is a unique privilege for me this morning to address this audience of distinguished personalities here present on this Road Safety Awareness Seminar and Usage of Genuine Engine Oil Advocacy programme organized by Automobiles And Road Safety initiative, Edo State Branch office.
Interestingly, I must say that this programme is quite apt and the discourse is taking place at such a time in our National history when the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) are under immense pressure to ensure the safety of lives and properties in our Nigeria Roads and the society at large.
I want to quickly commend the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) effort geared towards sensitizing stakeholders on dangers of using fake auto parts and lubricants as your main objectives of Automobiles And Road Safety Initiatives are very clear in this regard.
Against this backdrop, even though no National-Government-Issued or Standardized Code of Ethics exists for auto mechanics, many repair shops and automotive associations adhere to a set of industry-specific conduct codes. Most stress the importance providing quality, reliable repairs at an affordable cost and making sure that clients receive excellent customer service. Even though the Code of Ethics may vary by business or organisation, most follow general guidelines that strive to ensure professional business practices.
On parts and Labour cost, most trusted mechanics pledge quality repairs and use reliable, proven car parts and products to service their client’s vehicles. Customers rely on auto mechanics to repair and replace vehicles parts at a reasonable cost, without unjustly inflating cost or Labour expenses.
On the part of skills and qualifications; Mechanics who follow a code of ethics guarantee they are trained, equipped and experienced to perform car repairs.
On customer service, a primary statement in most mechanics codes of ethics is a commitment to provide excellent customer service and on quality controls auto mechanics often support a code of ethics that says they will exercise tight quality controls on purchased parts, products and services.
On the part of Road Safety; one of the statutory functions of Federal Road Safety Corps is making the highway safe for motorists and other road users.
In this seminar today, we are going to hear more presentations from experts in their various fields and without wasting much time, I hereby with the power vested on me as Chairman of this Occasion declare the seminar open.
Thank you for listening and wish you good deliberations
